Broadcom Launches Thor Ultra Networking Chip to Rival Nvidia in AI Systems
Date Published

Broadcom has unveiled its new Thor Ultra networking chip, designed to power large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) systems and compete directly with Nvidia in the fast-growing AI infrastructure market.
The new chip enables companies to connect hundreds of thousands of AI processors together, creating massive computing clusters for training and running AI models. This technology aims to improve data transfer speed and efficiency inside data centers — areas where Nvidia currently leads with its NVLink and Infiniband solutions.
According to Reuters, Broadcom’s latest release strengthens its position in AI networking hardware and marks a major step in its rivalry with Nvidia.
In a related move, Broadcom also announced a partnership with OpenAI to develop 10 gigawatts of custom AI chips, expected to roll out starting in 2026.
With these advancements, Broadcom is solidifying its place as a key player in the next generation of AI computing infrastructure.
